Why am I being asked a question before I can see the brief?

Some briefs include a quick question or two you’ll answer before the full brief unlocks. It’s not a test — it’s a fit check, and it works in your favor as much as the brand’s.

Why the question comes first

If you could read the full brief before answering, you’d naturally lean your response toward what the brand is looking for — even without meaning to. Gating the question before the brief means your answer reflects your honest situation or preference, not what you’ve inferred the brand wants to hear. That helps the brand cast the right creators, and helps you land on briefs that are actually a fit.

How to answer

  • Be honest. If your answer doesn’t match what the brand is looking for, this brief probably isn’t right for you — there’s another one that is.
  • Be specific. Brands read these to get a quick sense of you. A thoughtful one-line answer beats a generic one.
  • If a photo is requested, make it relevant. Tie it directly to the question — don’t just upload something from your portfolio.

Once you submit your answer, the full brief unlocks and you can apply as usual.
