Creator payments come out of your Cohley funds balance. When you don’t have enough funds to cover a payment, you’ll see a red Add Cohley funds button. You can also add funds proactively as soon as Creators are accepted so they’re ready when it’s time to pay. Here are your funding options.
Company Preferences -> Cohley Funds
Funds can be added at any time. Cohley tracks the funds needed for all active campaigns and necessary funds are displayed on your homepage. Follow the steps here to add funds to your account in advance.
Add funds when it's time to pay in the brief:
- Go to the brief and click Send Payment (mass or individual) — see How to pay your accepted Creators
- If you don’t have enough funds, click Add Cohley funds
- Pick a funding method (Invoice / Credit card / Shopify)
- Choose the amount:
- Expected brief amount — covers all accepted Creators on the brief, regardless of stage
- Net amount needed — just enough to cover the Creators you’re paying right now
- Other amount — any custom amount
Once funds land, return to your payment action and complete the payment.
Option 1: Invoice (ACH, credit card or wire transfer payment)
Every brand is set up to request an invoice by default.
- Payment terms follow what was set in your Cohley contract
- The invoice is automatically sent to your billing contact (set at contracting)
- Funds are added to your Cohley account as soon as the invoice is processed
- No fees charged by Cohley for invoice-based funding
You can also view and download invoices later — see How Do I View and Download My Cohley Invoices or Credit Card Receipts?
Option 2: Credit card
If you have a credit card on file with Cohley, you can charge it directly.
- A transaction fee of 2.59% + $0.49 is automatically added for credit card processing
- The transaction can take up to 48 hours to settle before funds are usable in your account
- A receipt is emailed to all Cohley users
Tip — no-fee credit card option via Chargebee: if you receive an invoice and would prefer to pay it by credit card without the platform fee, you can add a credit card to Chargebee (Cohley’s invoicing platform) when paying the invoice. No transaction fees are charged when paying through Chargebee.
Option 3: Shopify
For brands using Shopify, you can fund Creator compensation directly through Shopify on a brief.
- Shopify funding includes transaction fees plus applicable state taxes (these vary by jurisdiction)
- This option lives in the brief’s payment flow when you click Add Cohley funds
If you’re not sure which method is cheapest for your situation, invoice via Chargebee CC is the no-fee path; Shopify and direct Cohley CC both have fees.
When funds land
- Invoice (ACH/wire): funds are immediately available
- Credit card: up to 48 hours
- Shopify: funds are immediately available
Once funds land, go back to the brief and complete the payment to your Creator(s).
