Why is my trending engagement number not what I think it should be?

Modified on Mon, 8 Jun at 11:52 AM

Your trending engagement is a Cohley calculation based on the last 30 days of your post activity on a connected social account — feed posts, reels, and stories. Two things to know if the number feels off:

1. If you just connected Instagram, Story data takes 30 days to fully populate

Instagram deletes Stories after 24 hours, so Cohley has to capture them in real time as you post them. For the first 30 days after you connect Instagram, we’re still building up your Story history — so Story performance won’t be reflected in your engagement rate during that window. After 30 days, you’re caught up.

2. Different platforms count interactions differently

The formula is interactions ÷ followers × 100, but what counts as an “interaction” depends on what each platform’s API exposes to Cohley:

  • Instagram: likes + comments + shares + saves
  • TikTok: likes + comments + shares (TikTok’s API doesn’t expose saves)
