Adding your own legal terms to briefs

Modified on Fri, 10 Jul at 2:57 PM

Every Cohley brief already includes Cohley’s standard terms & conditions, which all Creators agree to. If your company has additional legal language — usage clauses, brand-safety requirements, compliance language — you can store it once and add it to any brief. Your custom terms are added on top of Cohley’s standard terms; they don’t replace them.

Step 1 — Save your legal terms in Company Preferences

  1. Go to Company Preferences → Add Brief legal terms and conditions.
  2. Click + Add new, give the version a name, and paste in your legal language.
  3. Save. You can store as many versions as you need — for example, different terms by region, product line, or campaign type.
  4. Use the “available when creating a brief” toggle to control which versions show up in the brief dropdown.

Note: legal terms can’t contain URLs or links — the field is text only, and it won’t save if a link is included.

Step 2 — Add a saved version to a brief

When you’re writing a brief, find Additional legal terms and conditions and choose Add from Company Preferences, then select the version you want. It’s added exactly as saved and shown as read-only, so your language stays consistent from brief to brief.

Heads-up: you can only select terms you’ve already saved in Company Preferences — there’s no way to write a brand-new version from inside the brief. If the language you need isn’t saved yet, exit to Company Preferences, add it (Step 1), then come back to your brief and select it.

To change the wording later, edit or add a version in Company Preferences — because the text is locked at the brief level to keep it standard.

What Creators see

On the brief overview, Creators see Cohley’s standard T&Cs, your additional legal terms, and the brief requirements together — each opens in its own view. When a Creator applies, they agree to all of these. Once a Creator is accepted, a timestamped PDF of the terms is stored with that brief as the contract record, capturing exactly what was agreed to at the time.

Want to require your legal terms on every brief?

If you’d like to make sure no brief launches on Cohley’s default terms — every brief must use one of your saved versions — your Cohley Customer Success Manager can turn that on for your account. Just reach out to your CSM. With it enabled, a brief can’t be launched until one of your stored legal terms is selected.
